The Blues are Alright
Pikes Peak Blues Community has taken the blues out of the schools and into the community. These events are for all children, all ages. Our goal is to educate the children of this true American roots music. This series give the children a chance to see the blues in a variety of different forms, from Africa’s West Coast, thru slavery to The Delta and New Orleans. During this time we will also have:

Make and Take Kalimba
Thumb piano that the children can assemble at the event and take home to have hours of musical enjoyment.

Carol Horen will be face painting in the key of the blues.

NOVEMBER 12
Bon Vivant Dusty Loo Theatreworks on the UCCS Campus

The “Portrait of the Blues” art contest
Children can draw or paint their vision of the blues and the winning painting will be the cover for the Blues Lyric Booklet. Many of the other paintings will be on display at Theatreworks on

Member bands will play a set of music and end with the winning lyric (from our contest) put to music and presented to the community. Prizes will be presented to the winning students (grand prize, first and second place).
